As part of its peaceful democratic reforms, Mongolia established diplomatic relations with the United States in 1987. The nation’s embassy is located in the Georgetown neighborhood of Washington, D.C. at 2833 M Street, N.W. It is the country’s official diplomatic mission to the United States. The embassy staff assists tourists and companies that want to visit or conduct business with Mongolia. Embassy officials handle diplomatic functions and engage in numerous community outreach programs to promote the culture of Mongolia. They are also responsible for encouraging foreign investment and trade as well as defense cooperation. The embassy building sits at the intersection of M Street, N.W. and the Georgetown terminus of Pennsylvania Avenue with an almost direct line of sight to the White House.
